My company (aerospace defense) is willing to reimburse employees to get 2 masters degrees. I already got a Bachelors in Business Administration (MIS and operations Management), and want to pursue a M.S. in Project Management and then an MBA. Is it worth all the time to pursue these degrees, or will 1 be sufficient?
a mba will be sufficient
I got an interview for a cleaning company that cleans an aerospace building. I know in order to work at this aerospace company, you have to do a drug test. Now my question is, the cleaning company is not connected to the aerospace ( except that it cleans the building). Do you think I will have to under go the drug test? I have included an excerpt from the job posting:
"Security and Safety: Basic security clearance, Criminal record check"
Yes you will any goverment employee and there associates, sub contractors ect. have to have secruity clearence and part of that securtity clearence is a drug test…
Now I’m a Specialty tech in a Toxicology Lab so if you have any concerns on how to clean up for the big day read my previous post about drug testing or e-mail me and i’ll be happy to answer them
More specifically, I am interested in using pictures of United States fighter airplanes for an aerospace company website. Just a note that this aerospace company has their equipment within the airplane itself.
If no copyright is claimed, go ahead and use the picture. A picture of the very same plane could be protected by copyright, such as by an artist who captured a dramatic view of clouds and sunset (or whatever). Just double-check the source.
After 9/11 my son was determined to be in the aviation industry. He is now a senior at Embry-Riddle. The Air Force and all companies involved in aerospace is denying him employment because he is not a citizen, only a permanent resident. He is Catholic and comes from the Caribbean. Run a security check for him. I spent my life savings putting him through university and now this. I wrote to the Air Force recruiting engineers now and the reply is that they have stopped recruiting permanent residents. Please stop treating everyone as if they are terrorists. Born and bred US citizens in the most sensitive positions have turned out to be turncoats. Why treat our children as if they are guilty before they are even given a chance. I would like to speak to someone in power who has made such an unwise decision.
Upset Mom.
it is heart rending when political decisins affect a family like this but you are out of luck. bad timing. do not waste your life on sorrow and discord over something that canot be changed.
tell your son to find employment in the other less sensitive fields and get some good experience and pay while using his knowledege in a less security sensitive area. I am sure that most commercial airlines would be happy to have him.
Eventually, especially now that there is a change of regime in USA, the policies will soften and new opportunities will arise in his preferred areas. Par of being a good citizen is to accept the governments decrees without complaint and do what is best for the security of America. he can also start the process of becoming a citizen instead of just a perm resident. IF he does not want to do this for loyalty reason, then perhaps he should consider flying for another country, perhaps the one he is from.
life is full of surprises, maybe this is a better fate for him.
many youngsters graduate from college with a special dgree only to find the markey t has shifted demand and they must take interim employment in related field or perhaps be unemployed. you son has been acquiring a useful skill in big demand and should have no problems getting a good career. what more can a mother ask for? nobody is guaranteed their perfect choice without any obstacles to surmount. The US government will not change its policies for you or anyone it seems so forget about it for now and wait. They do not even care about the citizens, mush less the perm residents. Bide your time and use it well.
Do not wear yourself out or make your son bitter by swimming upstream against the tide. swim horizontal to the shore until the tide changes. he is young and will adapt. the policy may chnage before he graduates. who knows?
I graduated with a bachelor’s of science in mechanical engineering from a very good research school (univ. of california, santa barbara).
Immediately after graduation, I got hired by a very good aerospace company that is already paying me an upper-end salary. They would pay for my master’s degree, but I am thinking… do I really need one? Would I get paid more in the long run?
I just recently got married and it would be very difficult to complete graduate school.
To me it seems like a Bachelors degree is a bare minimum in my field even though people with undergrad and grad degrees start in the same place when it comes to entry level jobs.
You don’t specify whether you would be going full-time or part-time for your master’s degree.
It will require sacrifice from both you and your wife either way, but if you are planning on going part-time, you should still be able to work (and thus maintain the same level of income) while going to school. It will take you longer to complete your degree but it may help soften the financial blow of grad school. If you are going full-time and, assuming that your company is not paying you your regular salary during the time you are going to school, you will need to discuss the changes in both time and finances with your wife and make sure she is okay with you going to grad school, since it has a big impact on both of you.
As for your main question, do you *need* a graduate degree? Probably not, but it would most likely help in advancement if you choose to stay in mechanical engineering as a career. While there are no guarantees that you would get paid more in the long run, it’s more likely with a master’s degree than without one.
Im collecting a list of AEROSPACE/AERONAUTICAL based private companies in INDIA to help myself & peoples in search of aero jobs
MUMBAI INDIA! kwik e mart also! blow me up!
I have noticed that the Yahoo! Finance: Aerospace/Defense Products & Services Industry News rarely has articles about Boeing which is historically in the top 2 or 3 companies? When I looked at the Yahoo Index of aerospace companies, Boeing isn’t listed. Does this make any sense?
Don’t make sense to me, either, When you look at the profile for BA, it says it is member of that industry.
i remember an article in the times news paper where a scientist noticed that microwaved photons seemed to arrive before they left ie moved faster than speed of light. my interest is that the beagle 2 rocket to mars used a new propulsion system to get from earth to mars. i want to know the details of that system so i can raise funds and launch an aerospace company in england.
The Beagle 2 was a project of the ESA and info can be found on the websites below.
I’ve had 30 years experience as an administrative assitant. I’ve very good: fast, accurate. I learn quickly. I know powerpoint and excel moderately enough to make fine presentations. I am burned out, though doing an excellent job where I am , however, I’m burn out on the atmosphere in my area. I need a promotion. My record there is clean. There just isn’t anywhere to move: the jobs that occasionally ‘Pop’ up are already taken by someone ‘they’ already had in mind. I want out and know that with that boost I’d be even more dynamite than I am. I work in Southern California near El Segundo, and I cannot mention the aerospace company whom I work for. Any one out there need an eager to get the job done sort of person?
I went to my favorite job search site, and found the following for you:
http://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=Experienced+Administrative+Assistants+%2440%2C000&l=el+segundo%2C+ca
Sounds like you need a real change. At www.indeed.com you can change your values to suit your requirements. I had the pay to be set at least $40,000 per year.
Good luck in your endeavors!
